Concrete Cutting
Prepare an anchor or dowel drilling brief
- scope decisions
- project preparation
A fixing hole and a hole for a pipe are different instructions. For anchors or dowels, the receiving designer or installer must specify the hole as part of the fixing system. A marked dot and a nominal diameter are not enough to approve drilling.
Start with the fixing specification
Provide the approved drawing and the anchor or dowel system information. The installer should confirm the required diameter, depth, orientation and drilling method against that system. Do not assume that a diamond-cored hole is interchangeable with another preparation method merely because its diameter matches.
List the hole IDs and the reference from which their positions are measured. Identify existing holes nearby and the concrete face that will receive the fixing. Edge distances and spacing are design inputs for the responsible professional, not decisions to improvise when a mark conflicts with an obstruction.
Separate investigation from production holes
Existing reinforcement and services still need review. If a location cannot be used, ask for a revised position rather than moving the pattern locally. A shifted fixing can affect the equipment or connection it is meant to hold. The scanning guide explains why a scan is information for review rather than blanket permission to drill.
Say whether the work is a defined set of approved holes or an investigation to help the designer finalise the layout. That distinction prevents an exploratory mark from being treated as a released installation location.
Name the installer who accepts the holes
Drilling, hole preparation and fixing installation should have explicit responsibility. Any cleaning, inspection or preparation needed by the selected system belongs in the agreed installation procedure; this article is not an anchor-installation instruction.
Record completed hole IDs and exceptions, including a hole stopped or rejected before completion. Keep unfinished holes identifiable and protected. The installer can then review the actual condition against the specification instead of assuming every visible hole is ready to receive a fixing.
Discuss this scope with CoreCut
For an anchor or dowel drilling enquiry, request an estimate with the approved pattern and the receiving installer’s specification.
