Core Drilling in Mississauga
Core drilling makes round openings through concrete slabs, walls and footings without breaking a larger area around the hole.
CoreCut handles these openings across Mississauga and the western GTA for homeowners, contractors and building operators.
Scope and fit
A hole may carry a plumbing line, HVAC duct, electrical conduit or a new anchor. Other projects call for dowels or a sample of existing concrete. We review the requested location and finished diameter with the trade that will use the opening, rather than assuming that every marked circle is safe to drill.
A slab or wall may conceal embedded services, reinforcement or tendons. Where those are possible, scanning and a review of available drawings come before drilling. Suspended slabs call for an engineer's review so the opening does not compromise the floor system. Indoors, the water used at the bit needs a collection plan before it reaches a finished surface or the room below.
What's included
- Review of hole locations and access with the receiving trade
- Coordination of scanning where concealed services or tendons are possible
- Controlled drilling through the specified concrete section
- Containment of drilling water and slurry indoors
- Removal of cores and work-area cleanup
Scope boundaries
A cut opening is not a finished installation. Structural design, reinforcement changes, excavation, framing and waterproofing need assigned responsibilities. Scanning and utility isolation are assessed before cutting.
Assessment and sequence
- 01
Site walk
We check access on both sides and confirm what each opening serves.
- 02
Marking
The trade's layout is checked against drawings and visible services.
- 03
Clearance
Scanning and engineering review are arranged where the structure requires them.
- 04
Protection
Floors and openings below are shielded, with water collection set up.
- 05
Drilling
Cores are taken out in a controlled sequence without widening the surrounding work.
- 06
Handover
We clear cores and slurry and review the openings with the receiving trade.
Before we start
Have the plumbing, mechanical or electrical contractor mark each location and confirm the required opening. Supply structural drawings for suspended floors and arrange an engineer's review where needed.
Arrange appropriate assessment of materials that may be disturbed and confirm the applicable responsibilities before the work is agreed. Read our survey guide.
Frequently asked questions
Can a core be drilled through a suspended floor?
It may be possible, but the floor's structure has to be reviewed first. Reinforcement, tendons and services can be hidden inside the concrete, and a hole in the wrong location can affect the floor or a service below. We work from the engineer's direction and coordinate scanning when the slab calls for it.
What happens to water used during indoor drilling?
We plan collection at the hole and protect surfaces beneath the drilling location. The water and concrete fines form slurry, which should not be allowed to run into a finished room or ordinary drain. Access below the slab matters too, so we confirm the room underneath before setting up.
Can you drill for anchors and dowels as well as pipes?
Yes. The intended use determines the location and opening, whether it is a passage for a pipe or a hole for a fixing. Anchor and dowel locations should come from the installer or the approved drawing. We confirm the pattern before drilling and leave the area ready for that trade.
Does the plumber need to be present when holes are marked?
The plumber or other receiving trade should establish the layout and the required clearances, even if they are not present throughout drilling. A marked location without a confirmed route can leave a hole that cannot be used. We review the marks during the site walk and flag conflicts before work begins.
