Scope and fit

Structural Demolition in Mississauga

Structural demolition is the removal of load-bearing walls, beams, joists or floor sections that hold the building up. It is done in Mississauga and Peel Region homes and buildings to an engineer's design, with temporary support in place before anything comes out.

What's included

  • Removal of structural elements within an approved scope
  • Coordination of support and removal responsibilities
  • Controlled material handling and debris removal

The written scope confirms the exact limits for your property.

Scope boundaries

Structural design is not inferred from a visual inspection by a demolition crew. Engineering, required approvals, temporary support and replacement construction need agreed responsible parties.

Before we plan the work

Bring the structural drawings and identify who is responsible for support, inspections and the replacement structure. Utility and material readiness must be resolved before removal.

Load-bearing wall, beam and other structural removals need a coordinated plan for what supports the building at each stage. We work to the agreed design and removal limits rather than treating an exposed wall as proof that it is safe to remove.

The handover between demolition and the contractor installing the replacement structure should be clear. Access and debris handling are planned around that sequence.

When a concrete cut needs engineering review

Assessment to handover

  1. 01

    Review the plan

We go through the engineer's drawings and permit conditions with you.

  2. 02

    Strip finishes

Drywall, plaster and ceilings are removed to expose the framing.

  3. 03

    Install shoring

Temporary supports are set as the plan specifies.

  4. 04

    Remove members

Load-bearing framing or concrete is taken out in controlled pieces.

  5. 05

    Clean-up for inspection

Debris is cleared so framing and inspection can proceed.

Planning questions

Do I need a permit to remove a load-bearing wall in Mississauga?

Yes. Removing or altering a load-bearing wall is a structural change that requires a building permit, normally with drawings from an engineer or qualified designer. The inspection happens after the new beam is installed.

What is shoring?

Shoring is temporary support, usually posts or short walls, that carries the load from above while a structural member is removed and replaced. It stays until the new beam and posts are in place.

Can you tell if a wall is load-bearing?

We can point out the usual signs, such as joists landing on the wall or a wall stacked above a beam. The final call belongs to an engineer, and a permit application needs their design.

Is structural work done differently in older homes?

Often, yes. Older homes may have undersized framing, past alterations and plaster that hides how loads travel. We strip enough to see the structure before the plan is finalised.
