Concrete Cutting
What power and water should a cutting site provide?
- scope decisions
- project preparation
Confirm site resources with the cutting contractor before the visit. An available outlet or hose connection does not establish that it suits the selected equipment or that the route to it can remain open during the work.
Ask for a site-specific resource request
Describe whether the job is indoors or outdoors, the floor level and the available access. Ask the contractor to state the power and water arrangements for the proposed setup. Supply details of existing connections only where they are known; photographs can help, but they do not verify electrical suitability.
Let the appropriate electrical professional resolve any supply change. Do not plan on adapters, an unverified circuit or an extension routed through an occupied doorway. Different equipment can require different arrangements, so this page deliberately gives no universal rating or hose specification.
Map the route as well as the connection
Identify locked service rooms, shared corridors, stairs and doors that must close. The shortest route for a cable or hose may interfere with public access or another contractor. Agree who can provide access, when the route is available and how it will be separated from people using the building.
Also confirm where the equipment can be unloaded and how removed concrete will leave. A resource connection on one side of a building is not useful if the approved work route approaches from the other. Put those constraints in the same brief as the cut location.
Plan collection, not just supply
Wet cutting needs a collection arrangement for water and concrete fines. An ordinary floor drain is not an assumed disposal point. The indoor slurry guide covers containment; the site brief should name the agreed collection area and who manages removal.
Before booking, close four questions: suitable supply, authorised access, protected routes and collection responsibility. If a resource is unavailable, tell the contractor so an alternative can be assessed. Do not promise that equipment will operate from whatever happens to be on site.
