Concrete removals for an EV-charging retrofit

By CoreCut Demolition

  • Concrete scope
  • Trade coordination

A charging layout can cross several different surfaces before it reaches the proposed charger. The electrical designer's route may pass through asphalt, a concrete walkway and an existing equipment pad. A request to trench the parking lot does not identify which of those materials CoreCut is being asked to remove.

Our concrete-cutting service can assess the concrete portions of an existing-property retrofit in Mississauga and across the GTA. Electrical design, excavation, charger installation and new civil construction remain separately assigned work.

Follow the route from the building to the parking space

Start with the electrical contractor's current layout. Show the building exit, proposed underground route, crossings and charger positions on one plan. Identify the actual surface at each crossing rather than assuming the whole route is concrete.

Include the retained features beside it: curbs, catch basins, accessible routes, entrances and neighbouring stalls. The project team needs to resolve their relationship to the proposed work. A removal plan does not determine charger placement or approve a changed pedestrian route.

Compare a local pad change with a route crossing

These are planning alternatives, not a CoreCut project or an installation detail. A charger beside an existing usable route may require less concrete work than one across several retained surfaces, but appearance alone does not establish what is usable.

Separate cutting, excavation and restoration

Describe the assessed cutting and removal endpoint explicitly. Slab sawing opens specified concrete sections; it does not itself install conduit, excavate an entire utility route or provide finished pavement. Agree who collects the removed sections and who receives the exposed area.

The responsible contractors arrange the required review of services and subsurface conditions before work. Do not treat paint marks from a preliminary layout as clearance to cut. If the route changes, update the concrete limits before the package is confirmed.

Keep the parking plan attached to the enquiry

An illustrative retrofit might retain the aisle and most stalls while replacing one pad and opening a walkway crossing. A second layout might use an existing route but require a different pad position. Compare the concrete items in those two designs rather than ordering the same removal package for both.

For a wider building upgrade, our energy-retrofit guide considers a different question: whether interior finishes need removal at all.

Request an assessment with the property, electrical contractor's layout, known concrete surfaces and retained parking features. Identify who handles excavation and reinstatement so the concrete portion has a clear beginning and end.
