Concrete project planning
Selective concrete removal after a construction design change
- Concrete scope
- Trade coordination
A revised design can leave an unwanted projection, an opening in the wrong arrangement or a larger concrete section that no longer suits the project. Start with the revised geometry and retained structure. The demolition enquiry should not diagnose defective work or decide who is responsible for it.
CoreCut assesses concrete cutting and the agreed removal contribution. The engineer, designer and receiving installer establish the change, its acceptability and any new construction or repair required.
Give the revision a physical boundary
Identify the current drawing and the superseded information. Mark what leaves, what stays and the reference locating the change. A note to make it fit is less useful than an issued dimension tied to the installation it serves.
| Illustrative change | Information to resolve |
|---|---|
| Unwanted concrete projection | Reviewed removal limit and treatment of the retained face |
| Altered opening | Required geometry, retained edges and installer clearance |
| Larger replacement area | Design decision between local alteration and separately specified replacement |

These alternatives do not determine whether the existing work is defective or whether cutting is feasible. The responsible professional must review the actual concrete, reinforcement and connected construction.
Keep tolerances with the receiving designer
The new installation may distinguish a rough opening from a finished dimension. Use the opening-dimensions guide to organise that conversation. CoreCut does not invent a tolerance or assume that cutting to a visible finish line will produce the required result.
Where an alteration exposes reinforcement or changes a structural section, the design must address that condition. Do not add repair, new reinforcement or replacement concrete to the demolition package by implication.
Decide what happens to the removed sections
A cut-only request differs from one including section removal and load-out. Identify who handles the concrete, what access is available and the condition the next contractor receives. The assessment determines the accepted arrangement rather than relying on a universal damage-free promise.
For an illustrative revised doorway, one design might allow a defined local alteration; another might require a larger replacement decision. The concrete enquiry follows that professional direction, not a comparison based only on how much material appears to obstruct the doorway.
Submit the current instruction
Request an assessment with the revision reference, marked removal area, retained elements and designer/installer contacts. If work has paused pending that decision, use the remaining-work guide to separate confirmed work from unresolved conditions.
