Basement Slab Removal for Lowering and Underpinning in Mississauga

Basement slab removal clears the existing floor so a specialist can undertake an approved lowering or underpinning sequence.

CoreCut carries out the cutting, breaking and loading across Mississauga and the western GTA in coordination with the underpinning contractor.

Scope and fit

The floor is not removed in isolation from the foundation plan. We review the engineer's drawings and the underpinning contractor's sequence, including areas that must remain untouched while other work progresses. Sawcut boundaries separate the floor being taken out from footings, walls and any sections the plan retains.

In a basement, every piece has to travel through the building or another agreed exit. We protect that route, keep loads manageable and avoid stacking heavy rubble beside an excavation or on an area being worked on. Dust control and the removal of loose debris help the next crew see the exposed base. We do not undertake the underpinning itself by implication: the written scope identifies where demolition ends and the specialist's work begins.

What's included

  • Review of slab limits against the underpinning sequence
  • Sawcutting beside protected concrete and foundation elements
  • Breaking and lifting scoped slab sections
  • Protected loading route through the house
  • Removal of rubble and cleanup for the specialist contractor

Scope boundaries

New concrete, plumbing work and a finished replacement surface are separate from removal. Unknown embedded services or suspect materials need assessment before disturbance.

Assessment and sequence

  1. 01

    Review the plan

We walk the basement with the engineer's drawing and the specialist.

  2. 02

    Identify protected areas

Footings, walls and any slab left in place are marked.

  3. 03

    Set the route

Interior floors and stairs used for loading are protected.

  4. 04

    Saw the limits

Cut lines define what can be removed in each stage.

  5. 05

    Lift and load

Concrete is broken into movable sections and carried out.

  6. 06

    Clean for the next crew

Loose rubble is cleared and the exposed area is reviewed.

Before we start

Provide the engineer's drawings, the underpinning contractor's sequence and the agreed loading route. If any structural cuts are required, have the engineer's drawings and City of Mississauga permit in place first.

Arrange appropriate assessment of materials that may be disturbed and confirm the applicable responsibilities before the work is agreed. The survey guide explains why that matters in occupied buildings.

Frequently asked questions

Does your crew perform the underpinning?

This page covers cutting and removing the existing slab ahead of the specialist's work. Underpinning, excavation beneath footings and the new structural work belong to the contractor and engineer assigned to that scope. We coordinate the demolition sequence with them so the basement is handed over at the right stage.

How are footings protected during slab removal?

The engineer's plan and the underpinning contractor's marks define the limits near footings and walls. We sawcut those boundaries and remove sections in the agreed order rather than breaking indiscriminately against the foundation. If concealed conditions differ from the drawing, work at that location pauses for direction.

Where does the concrete go if there is no exterior basement access?

Pieces are sized for the agreed route through the house and moved over protected floors and stairs. We review doorway access, turns and staging before work begins. The route is kept clear so rubble does not collect beside active excavation or interfere with the specialist's next stage.

Can the entire floor be removed before underpinning starts?

That depends on the engineer's design and the specialist contractor's construction sequence. Some areas may need to stay in place while work proceeds elsewhere. We follow the approved staging and do not treat full-floor removal as a default simply because all of the slab will eventually be replaced.
